What Is a Health Coach and How Can Health Coaching Help You?

Confidence and vitality through improved health and wellness

Have you ever felt frustrated with your health, knowing something needs to change but not knowing where to begin?

Maybe you're struggling with fatigue, poor sleep, digestive issues, stubborn weight gain, or simply not feeling like yourself. Perhaps you've tried different diets, exercise programs, supplements, or lifestyle changes, only to find yourself right back where you started.

Or maybe you know exactly what you should be doing to improve your health, but knowing what to do and consistently doing it are two very different things.

You may be successful in other areas of your life. You're capable, hardworking, and accustomed to figuring things out. Yet when it comes to your health, you feel stuck.

If any of this sounds familiar, health coaching may be the missing piece.

What Is a Health Coach?

A health coach is a trained professional who helps people make meaningful, sustainable changes to improve their health and well-being.

Health coaching combines education, guidance, encouragement, accountability, and practical strategies to help you move from where you are today toward where you want to be.

But health coaching is about more than telling someone what to eat or how to exercise.

It's about understanding the behaviors, habits, beliefs, and circumstances that influence your health—and helping you make changes that work within the context of your life.

A health coach serves as a mentor, guide, accountability partner, and sometimes even a cheerleader. There may also be moments when a little tough love is exactly what you need!

The goal isn't simply to help you make changes for a few weeks or months. It's to help you build a foundation for lasting health and well-being.

What Can a Health Coach Help You With?

People seek health coaching for many different reasons. Some are struggling with specific health concerns, while others simply want to feel better, improve their habits, or take a proactive approach to their long-term health.

Common areas of focus include:

  • Energy and vitality: Supporting better energy through nutrition, sleep, movement, and recovery.

  • Nutrition and eating habits: Improving food choices, managing cravings, addressing emotional eating, and developing sustainable eating habits.

  • Weight and body composition: Building habits that support healthy weight management, strength, and body composition goals.

  • Sleep and stress: Improving sleep routines, managing stress, and prioritizing recovery.

  • Digestive wellness: Exploring nutrition and lifestyle habits that support digestive comfort.

  • Hormonal and metabolic wellness: Supporting healthy lifestyle habits during hormonal changes or while navigating metabolic health concerns.

  • Fitness and physical well-being: Developing realistic exercise and movement routines that support strength, mobility, and overall health.

  • Healthy aging and longevity: Building a foundation for vitality, resilience, and long-term well-being.

  • Behavior and lifestyle change: Overcoming procrastination, improving consistency, establishing priorities, and creating lasting habits.

Health coaching can also complement conventional medical care by helping individuals implement appropriate nutrition and lifestyle recommendations while managing existing health concerns.

Why Is Making Healthy Changes So Difficult?

Most people don't struggle because they lack information.

We live in a world overflowing with advice about nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, and healthy living. Yet having access to information doesn't necessarily translate into meaningful change.

Sometimes the challenge is knowing where to begin.

Sometimes it's feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice.

And sometimes it's having every intention of making a change but struggling to follow through when life gets busy, stressful, or unpredictable.

This is where coaching can make a meaningful difference.

Rather than handing you another generic plan and expecting you to figure it out, a health coach works alongside you to identify what's getting in your way, establish realistic goals, and develop strategies that support lasting change.

Lasting transformation isn't just about changing what you do. It's also about changing how you think, the habits you practice, and the way you approach your health and your life.

My Philosophy: Looking Beyond the Surface

One of the most important lessons I've learned through my own health journey, my athletic career, and my years of coaching is that appearances don't always tell the whole story.

Someone can look incredibly healthy, strong, successful, and capable while struggling with things that aren't visible to the outside world.

I know this firsthand.

There was a time when I was accomplishing extraordinary things physically while privately struggling with my own health. Looking healthy and being healthy were two very different things.

That experience profoundly influenced the way I approach coaching.

I believe in looking beyond the surface to understand the whole person—not just their symptoms or physical appearance, but their lifestyle, habits, responsibilities, relationships, challenges, and goals.

I also recognize the value of looking beneath the surface from a physiological perspective. Functional lab testing can provide another layer of information, offering insights that may help guide individualized health and lifestyle strategies.

For me, the goal is to understand as much of the picture as possible so we can make thoughtful, informed decisions about moving forward.

My Approach to Health Coaching

As a Certified Transformational Health Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner® (FDN-P), I bring together my professional training in transformational coaching and functional health with decades of experience in health, fitness, and competitive athletics.

My transformational coaching background helps me guide clients through the behavioral and lifestyle changes necessary to create sustainable results.

As an FDN-P, I've received specialized training in using functional laboratory assessments and evaluating patterns of physiological function to help inform individualized nutrition and lifestyle strategies. This work complements my coaching by providing another perspective on a client's health.

And my decades in the health and fitness world, including my experience as a competitive athlete, have given me a practical understanding of the importance of movement, strength, nutrition, recovery, and consistency.

Together, these experiences shape an approach that is personalized, collaborative, and focused on meaningful, sustainable change.

You bring your experiences, goals, and willingness to make changes. I bring education, experience, perspective, practical know-how, guidance, encouragement, and accountability.

Together, we work toward building a healthier foundation for your future.

You Don't Have to Figure It All Out Alone

You don't have to wait until your health reaches a breaking point to begin making meaningful changes.

Whether you're navigating frustrating health challenges, struggling to follow through on healthy habits, or simply wanting to be more intentional about your health and longevity, coaching can provide support and direction.

I believe your health is one of the most valuable investments you can make—not simply because of how you look or what you can accomplish, but because of how it allows you to experience and enjoy your life.

You deserve to feel good in your body, confident in your choices, and empowered to take ownership of your health.

And you don't have to do it alone.

If you're ready to explore what improving your health could look like, I'd love to connect and learn more about you.
